Manny Pacquiao vs. Terence Crawford may not be a lost cause after all.
Many were led to believe that Pacquiao vs. Mikey Garcia was a foregone conclusion. Garcia claimed the bout was close to finalization, while Pacquiao admitted he was leaning towards fighting Garcia rather than Crawford. All hope isn’t lost, however.
Mike Coppinger of The Athletic is reporting that Pacquiao and Crawford are in talks for a potential June 5 showdown in Abu Dhabi. The deal is reportedly contingent on the fight taking place in Abu Dhabi. While Top Rank has informed ESPN and PPV distributor In Demand of the plans, no agreement has been made yet.
Crawford has admitted to Fight Hype that he’d prefer fighting Manny Pacquiao over Shawn Porter.
“I don’t know we just have to wait and see. Both of them are great fights. Yeah I prefer the Manny Pacquiao fight over Shawn Porter, but Shawn Porter is a great fight in its own right and I am going to be ready for whichever one comes to fruition.”
Pacquiao told ABS-CBN that Garcia was the frontrunner for his next opponent before the report of a potential clash with Crawford surfaced.
“We’re leaning towards Mikey Garcia, but we’re also talking to Crawford. It depends on who I get to face, what’s important is I’m ready. We never really got complacent, we’ve always continuously worked out. We keep on playing basketball aside from boxing. Actually, right after my fight the last time with [Keith] Thurman, I didn’t work out boxing, but I kept playing basketball.”
