Manny Pacquiao’s 2024 Paris Olympic Bid Denied

Manny Pacquiao will not compete at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.

The eight-division champion intended to box to win an Olympic gold. According to the Philippine Olympic Committee President Bambol Tolentino, any boxer had to be aged between 19 and 40. But since Pacquiao is 45, he could only do so if he was granted a ‘universality blueprint,’ which would require the Philippine Olympic Committee to request that the IOC allows him to fight. Marcus Manalo, the General Secretary of the Philippines Association of Boxing Alliances, was optimistic.

“It’s all up in the air. But we’re hopeful about the appeal for a universality place because it would be extremely beneficial for us if it gets approved. We’re hopeful, but again, we must manage expectations,” Manalo said

But Tolentino has now ruled that out.

“Too bad our beloved boxing icon is disqualified because of his age and that everyone needs to go through qualifiers, in all sports, to be able to participate in Paris,” Tolentino stated
