Manuwa Thinks He Will Headline UFC London
While fans and UFC management wait to hear from Michael Bisping regarding his status for UFC London, Jimi Manuwa thinks it’s possible that he will headline consecutive UFC London cards.
Manuwa is slated to take on Jan Blachowicz on March 17th from the O2 arena, and feels there is a chance that his fight will be the evening’s main event.
“Yeah, there’s a chance; there’s always a chance,” Manuwa told Ariel Helwani on the latest episode of The MMA Hour.
“I main evented the show in London last year and I gave the fans a spectacular knockout. It is what it is, I wouldn’t mind being the main event on it, so we’ll see what happens.”
Manuwa’s clash with Corey Anderson initially wasn’t announced as the main event for last year’s London event, UFC Fight Night 107. However, the light heavyweight clash got announced as the main attraction at a later date.
“(UFC) haven’t told me anything, but we’ll see what happens. I was main event last time. The main event doesn’t really bother me, I just want to put on a great performance and get the win.”
Manuwa claims he is only having a rematch with Blachowicz because nobody else would take a fight with him.
“A little bit, but that’s due to people turning down fights,” he replied when asked if he was surprised he was booked to fight the Pole for a second time.
“He’s the only one who step up for me to fight. At the end of the day, he’s the only person I’ve been to a decision with in my career so I have to rectify that and knock him out.”
