Marco Antonio Barrera Meets Jesus Soto Karass, Not Erik Morales In Exhibition

Marco Antonio Barrera won’t be fighting Erik Morales next after all.

Barrera vs. Morales in an exhibition had been reported by ESPN Deportes. The matchup was in discussions to take place on July 16. As it turns out, Barrera will be fighting over one month earlier and he won’t be taking on Morales.

Marvnation Promotions has announced that Barrera will share the ring with Jesus Soto Karass on June 11. The bout will take place inside the Pico Rivera Sports Arena in Pico Rivera, California.

The news may come as a surprise to Morales, who told ESPN Deportes that he was under the impression that he’d be returning to the ring to face his old rival.

“We are very happy to be able to get back in the ring. Barrera was a great opponent for me in my career, we had three fights, two of them were the best [fights] of the year, and we are just finalizing some things. In a few days, we will have the venue and see if we are going to use headgear or not. What has been decided is that it will be six rounds.”
