Mario Barrios Elevated To Full WBC Welterweight Champion

Mario Barrios has been elevated to a full WBC Welterweight Champion shortly after Terence Crawford was made a ‘Champion in Recess.’

Barrios became the WBC Interim Welterweight Champion after beating Yordenis Ugas, making him mandatory for Crawford. He defended his title with a win over Fabian Maidana in his last fight. Crawford then moved up to junior middleweight and agreed to fight Israil Madrimov on August 3. A win makes Crawford a four-division champion by adding the WBA belt.

Barrios is now in line for some big fights. He has been linked with a fight against Manny Pacquiao, who is considering a comeback at 45. Meanwhile, Devin Haney could move up to 147 to capture the WBC belt, which he already holds at 140. Jaron Ennis has also been mentioned as a possibility. Boots holds the IBF belt at 147, which sets up a big unification. While it is not the ideal way to become a champion, Barrios can face the best and earn big paydays.
