Marlon Moraes Signs With UFC, Set for Debut
Former World Series of Fighting bantamweight champion Marlon Moraes has been in talks with the UFC for quite some time, and is now set to make his debut in the top MMA promotion.
Moraes has signed with the UFC and will fight Raphael Assuncao at UFC 212 in Rio. MMAFighting’s Ariel Helwani reported the signing late Thursday night.
Moraes (18-4-1) dominated the bantamweight division in World Series of Fighting, winning 13 fights in a row before his WSOF contract wrapped up last year. He has long been thought to be one of the best fighters competing outside of the UFC, and will now have the opportunity to prove himself among the true elites of MMA.
He will not have an easy test in his first UFC bout, taking on top-five contender Assuncao. The fellow Brazilian boasts a record of 24-5 and recently defeated Aljamain Sterling by split decision.
UFC 212 will take place in Rio de Janeiro and is headlined by a featherweight title fight between Jose Aldo and Max Holloway.
