Marlon Moraes Speaks On UFC Fight Island 5 Loss

Marlon Moraes has spoken out on his UFC Fight Island 5 defeat to Cory Sandhagen.

Moraes and Sandhagen did battle in the main event of UFC Fight Island 5 this past Saturday night, October 10. The action was held inside the Flash Forum on Yas Island in Abu Dhabi. Moraes was stopped in the second round by being dropped by a spinning heel kick.

During the UFC Fight Island 5 post-fight show, Moraes admitted he feels the fight was stopped too quickly (via MMAFighting.com).

“I thought we had a very good first round. But I thought I won the round. And then he started the second and I don’t know, I think he kind of catch me with a kick and bloodied my eye a little bit and right after he surprised me. He didn’t come this way, he came the other way and that’s it. Probably a little early stoppage but whatever. I thought I was [OK to continue] but the ref just jumped on me. I didn’t have time enough to get up.”

Moraes was hoping to get back in title contention against Sandhagen. Instead, he’s gone 1-2 in his last three outings. He has a win over Jose Aldo but suffered finishing losses to Sandhagen and Henry Cejudo in that span.

On the other side, this is a huge win for Sandhagen. “The Sandman” was coming off a quick submission loss to Aljamain Sterling. While the finish to the Sterling bout led many to believe that Sandhagen’s stock dropped significantly, he has quickly rebounded.
