Marrero Makes Quick Work of Zambrano

That didn’t take long.

Just halfway through the first round of their main event title contest on Saturday night’s Premier Boxing Champions (PBC) event on Fox Sports 1, Claudio Marrero sent Carlos Zambrano to the canvas, knocking him out. Marrero is the new WBA interim champion and won the vacant IBO featherweight championship, while handing Zambrano his first loss as a professional.

The two moved to the center of the ring and Marrero immediately came after Zambrano, trying to make sure he didn’t move around the ring too much. Zambrano hit a one-two, but Marrero wasn’t affected. The two moved towards the ropes and Marrero unleashed a heavy right straight and left hook to the body, which sent Zambrano to the canvas.

Zambrano was unable to answer the referee’s 10-count, giving Marrero the titles and his 16th knockout out of his now 22 victories.
