Marvin Vettori Punished Himself After Israel Adesanya Defeated Him In Title Fight

Marvin Vettori ran five miles as a punishment for losing against Israel Adesanya in their rematch in June.

Vettori (17-5) used his second chance of sharing the octagon with the Last Stylebender, but lost via unanimous decision at UFC 263.

After the defeat, Vettori said that he was going to punish himself.

“I actually did it, yeah. I went out and I did a run,” he said. “And it’s not like I kept the same pace the whole time. Like I said, I did slow down. But that’s my mentality. I don’t dwell on myself. I mean, I’ll get mad but listen, anger gets sh-t done.”

In their first bout in 2018, Vettori suffered a split-decision loss, but he was sure that he would not leave any question marks for this fight.

However, Adesanya controlled the fight and dominated takedown defense, successfully defending his middleweight strap.

But now the Italian middleweight is prepping to take on Paulo Costa on Saturday, October 23.

Both fighters suffered losses against Adesanya, but they are still considered top middleweight contenders. The winner of this bout will stay in the line of the title shot.

Costa has 11 KO victories out of 13, but Vettori has never suffered a loss via KO or submission.
