Matchroom Boxing To Reschedule Multiple Fights To October, Including A Lee Selby Title Eliminator
Carefully planning out the next few months, Matchroom Boxing is working on making matchups through October. That includes two exciting bouts meant to take place this summer.
In a press release, Matchroom has stated they have rescheduled two big fights: Lee Selby’s IBF Featherweight Title Eliminator bout against George Kambosos Jr. (originally on June 27) and Lewis Ritson v. Miguel Vazquez (originally on July 11). This is due to the latest guidelines brought on by the British Boxing Board of Control and the UK government as a result of the coronavirus.
The Selby-Kambosos fight will now be on October 3 in Cardiff, while Ritson-Vazquez will take place in Newcastle on October 17.
Selby (28-2) made his professional debut in 2008. A former British and Commonwealth Featherweight Champion, “Lightning” won the IBF Featherweight Title from Evgeny Gradovich back in 2015. He defended it four times before losing the title to Josh Warrington (the current champion) in 2018 via split decision. Since then he has won two in a row, last beating Ricky Burns in October.
Kambosos (18-0) made his debut in 2013. A former Australian Lightweight Champion, “Ferocious” fought three times in 2019. His last bout was a split decision win against Mickey Bey in December.
A former British Lightweight Champion, Ritson (20-1) lost to Francesco Patera in October 2018 for the European Lightweight Title. Since then, he has won three fights in a row, all in 2019. His last bout was a unanimous decision win over Robbie Davies Jr. in October 2019.
Vasquez (42-9) is a former IBF Lightweight Champion. Defending it six times, he lost the belt to Bey in 2014 after holding onto it since 2010. He has since worked his way back up to being a contender. 2-2 in his last four fights, Vasquez last fought in December, beating Jesus Velasco via TKO.
Tickets bought for the July events will be valid for the October dates. Refunds are also a possibility and will be available at the point of purchase.
