Matchroom’s Hearn Has Been In Contact With Tyson

When it comes to putting on fights that result in entertainment and views, nothing is off limits for Matchroom Boxing’s Eddie Hearn.

Recently, Mike Tyson announced his intention to return to the boxing ring to fight for charity. He has received several inquiries from various parties. Someone on his team, however, contacted Hearn do get something going.

‘They reached out to me. I had a call, a message, someone reached out to me and said “I wanna talk about Mike,” Hearn stated to British Boxing TV, via Boxing Scene.

This wouldn’t be something Hearn would dismiss, would it? After nixing the idea to broadcast the first KSI v. Logan Paul fight, Hearn saw the numbers that were being produced by it. He then immediately signed them up for the rematch. Hearn has been known to say that the only way to bring in new people into the sport is to spice things up. That is why he previously entertained the idea of Paul v. former NFL star Antonio Brown.

Tyson hasn’t competed in a boxing fight since 2005 when he lost to Kevin McBride. A controversial figure, Tyson appears to be in phenomenal shape. Hearn sees that an opportunity is there. Will he take it?

“I would like to see it. But I kind of feel like, and I know people will say ‘Well, you did the YouTube fight with KSI” but is it a bit irresponsible to let a 53-year-old legend get back in the ring? I don’t know. He looks pretty dangerous, but I think it’s just the fascination of could he actually go in at 53 and do some damage in the division? Maybe, maybe not,” Hearn went on to say.

“There’s a fine line, and I’ve crossed it a couple of times, sort of with the integrity of the sport versus entertainment and delivering numbers. Our job is to deliver numbers for our broadcasters. But we have to try and keep it as close to the right mark as we possibly can. I don’t know, stranger things have happened, we’ll see.”

When it comes down to it, money is a key factor in the negotiations. Tyson is doing this for charity, while Hearn is looking to help out as well as boost subscribers to DAZN and the Matchroom brand.
