Mauricio Lara-Josh Warrington Rematch Ended In A Technical Draw
The rematch between Mauricio Lara and former IBF Featherweight champion Josh Warrington ended in a technical draw after the Bronco sustained a cut on his left eyebrow.
Lara suffered the injury after Warrington and his head collided during the match. Referee Steve Gray stopped the contest when the fight was only two rounds in. The ringside doctor had confirmed that Lara’s corner was unable to stop the bleeding from his gaping wound.
Warrington was gutted to walk away without avenging his loss. Lara had knocked him out in their first showdown arranged behind closed doors in February.
The former IBF titlist said that he was close to breaking in tears when the official waved off the rematch.
“I am confused, I don’t know what to say,” the Leeds Warrior said. “I honestly felt I could burst into tears when the ref waved it off. I thought I caught him in the first round and I thought I could see a nick there and kept targeting it. When I dived in there was a head clash and I am absolutely gutted.”
He was frustrated to miss out on “giving the crowd a show.”
“I sat down after the first round and thought to myself ‘how did this guy knock me out?’” Warrington added.
