‘May The Best Woman Win’: Carla Esparza Reacts To UFC Title Shot Snub

Carla Esparza seems disappointed in the UFC’s decision to give choose Zhang Weili as the next challenger for the strawweight crown.

The 33-year-old fighter is on a five-fight win streak, whereas Weili just lost the title to Rose Namajunas in April. Weili and Namajunas will meet at UFC 268 on November 6.

The Chinese MMA star and her team were instantly appealing for a rematch when she got knocked out 78 seconds into the April showdown.

On the other hand, Esparza, the inaugural UFC champ at 115 pounds, holds a 1-0 record against the incumbent strawweight queen. In December 2014, she won the UFC belt and Season 20 of “The Ultimate Fighter” reality show with a third-round submission of Namajunas.

In her latest Instagram post, she posted a photo of herself at a gym.

“I’ve worked many years to fight my way back to a title shot. I have faith good things will come, and in the meantime, I will use this time to strength build and skill build! May the best woman win… I got next,” she wrote.

The California native is eager to be next in line for a bout against the winner of the Weili-Namajunas fight.

Since September 2018, Esparza has steamrolled through Yan Xiaonan, Marina Rodriguez, Michelle Waterson, Alexa Grasso and Virna Jandiroba.
