Mayer Eyeing A Clash Against Harper
As one of the leading talents that makes up Top Rank’s roster, Mikaela Mayer is always lookin to elevate her game. The current NABF Super-Featherweight Champion, Mayer (12-0) has taken care of every single challenger Top Rank has put in front of her. What’s next for the former olympian?
If she had it her way, a world title.
Mayer did a Q&A session on Instagram this past week to interact with fans. When asked if viewers could see her fighting in the United Kingdom at some point, Mayer expressed interest in facing WBC Junior-Lightweight Champion Terri Harper.
“I’m sure I’ll be heading out to debut in the UK soon, hopefully to swoop the belt from Harper,” Mayer stated, via Bad Left Hook. “Looking forward to it.”
The 29-year-old, who won bronze in the amateur boxing World Championships in 2012, has yet to fight outside of the United States in her pro career. Since turning pro in 2017, Mayer has won five fights via knockout and seven via decision. She beat Vanessa Bradford to win the NABF Title. Mayer’s last bout was against Alejandra Soledad Zamora in October.
Harper (10-0), has yet to fight outside of the United Kingdom. Turning pro in 2017 as well, the 23-year-old recently signed with Matchroom Boxing. She beat Eva Wahlstrom in her first big test in February, adding the WBC belt to go along with the IBO belt.
No talks have been mentioned so far between Top Rank and Matchroom for a clash between the two. It would be considered a true test for Mayer, and a big opportunity for Harper.
