Floyd Mayweather has been in Europe doing appearances and public interviews the past week, saying that he wants to expand his promotional reach in the U.K. But the topic everyone wanted to talk to him about was, of course, the rumored matchup against European MMA star Conor McGregor.
For the past two months reports have been that the fight between Mayweather and McGregor is in serious talks rather than just online hypothesizing. When Mayweather was asked about the fight this week, he said that the ball is in McGregor’s court.
"The Conor McGregor fight, I don’t know if it’s going to happen," Mayweather told ESPN. "If it do, it do. If it don’t, it don’t.
"They’re asking me about this fight always. I’m over here in the UK and in Europe, period, doing my tour, telling my story, telling the people where I’m coming from, shaking my fans’ hands, signing autographs. That’s all I’m doing.
"But if Conor McGregor really wants to make the fight happen, stop blowing smoke up everybody’s ass, sign the paper. Sign the paper. You said you’re a boss, just sign the paper."
The specifics of the negotiations between McGregor and Mayweather’s camps have not been revealed, but it is clear that both sides have been in talks and offers have been made. Whether or not McGregor is satisfied with the amount Mayweather Promotions is offering, or if the UFC will ever allow the fight to take place, remains to be seen.
