Mayweather’s Zimbabwe Trip Divides The Boxing Community – Here’s Why?

Floyd Mayweather generated a reaction following his trip to Zimbabwe.

The visit was part of Mayweather’s wider ‘Motherland Tour.’ During the course of that process, ‘TBE’ was welcomed at a campaigning event by the ZANU PF party.

This was a part of the party’s attempt to win the upcoming election and remain in office. Upon Mayweather’s arrival, the boxer was greeted by cheers as he took pictures with the spectators.

“It is always great to come back to Africa. The motherland, a beautiful place, beautiful people, coming back to see my people. They embrace me with open hearts,” Mayweather

Thereafter, Mayweather said a few words in which he lauded the current President Emmerson Mnangagwa and the country. This generated a lot of talking points.

Some backed Mayweather’s words, as it could have the impact of uniting an otherwise polarized nation. Meanwhile, others questioned whether the boxer should have touched on political issues.

But in any event, there was a perception that Mayweather may have done this for his publicity. And this was reflected in the comments that followed on social media.
