Campbell McClaren founder and leader of Combate Americas, has confirmed in an interview that Tito Ortiz’ first fight inside the Combate cage will be against CA executive and pro wrestler Alberto El Patron.
Patron, real name Jose Rodriguez, has been angling for a return to MMA this year in Combate, after a nine year absence from the sport, having a few fights in PRIDE, most notably a knockout loss by Mirko Cro Cop.
Ortiz would mark his first fight since his November 2018 first round stoppage of Chuck Liddell in the headliner of Golden Boy’s ill-fated MMA event.
Rodriguez is more known for his run as Alberto Del Rio in the WWE, where he had two tours of duty, and his time as Dos Caras Jr, which is what he fought under as an MMA fighter.
Speaking with MMA Junkie, Combate Americas vice president of operations and communications Mike Afromowitz confirmed the fight is in the process of being finalized at a 210-pound catchweight.
“The fight is going to happen,” Afromowitz said. “I came up with the idea a few months ago, after Alberto had expressed his intention of wanting to fight for Combate Americas, and brought the idea to my boss Campbell McLaren. We went out to both camps and have put this fight together. It’s on.”
