McGregor Looks To Return In April – ‘I Must Return To My Way Of Living’
Conor McGregor expects to make his MMA comeback in April in what would be the UFC fighter’s first bout since 2021.
McGregor’s last bout was all the way back at UFC 264 as the Irishman was stopped in the first round by Dustin Poirier. However, McGregor suffered a broken leg in the bout which has kept the fighter out since then. Reports of a return to take on Michael Chandler in 2023 failed, as McGregor did not meet USADA’s deadlines. The organization requires that fighters provide two negative samples across six months before they can compete. McGregor’s enrolment, however, was officially confirmed this month, which makes a fight in 2024 possible. In response, this is what McGregor had to say.
“April, They’re saying April now. I’m happy with April. I would’ve loved earlier, but I have to be — if I’m to be honest and realistic, and for my fans, I want to put in a good run, build myself back, and that’s it. It’s looking like April, mixed martial arts. I’ve been kept from my living for almost three years now.
“Understand that. I came through what I came through. I’m sitting on an injury and a loss. Imagine what that [does]. You hear what Alexander Volkanovski said — I relate. I must return to my way of living. This is my job. So it’s beyond frustrating and hopefully we can back [in April]. I just want the date. My date, please. That’s it,” McGregor
As of now, an opponent has not been announced. Nevertheless, Chandler appears be the frontrunner, given the links that have persisted since their time as coaches on the TUF 31 series. And yet, until McGregor steps foot in the octagon, there are still doubts about his return. How will the Irishman respond to the injury, and will McGregor look the same, given the extensive amount of time out on the sidelines? Either way, McGregor’s focus was on returning as soon as possible.
“But I just want to get back and get active. I want to become the best me before I call it a day, and for that to happen, for any fighter, to be the best they can be, they need consistent competition. So I am eager for that,” McGregor
