McGregor Negotiating For July Return To UFC

After a loss to Khabib Nurmagomedov, many did not know when the former double champion would return to the Octagon.

With his suspension for his role in the UFC 229 brawl ending in April, it seems the “Notorious” Irish superstar is set for a return this summer.

Acting as the guest of honor for Chicago’s annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade, McGregor told ABC7 Chicago on Saturday that a return is being eyed for this summer.

“Yes, we’re currently in negotiations,” McGregor said. “We’re aiming for July. We’ll see what happens, but I’m staying ready. This morning I was doing incline sprints on the treadmill on my program, the McGregorFast program, in a hotel room. So, we’re staying on it, getting work in as we go.”

McGregor was in-talks for a fight with Donald Cerrone for some time after his suspension, but they were stalled when McGregor refused to be the co-main event of a card.

After a little Twitter smack talk, McGregor could face off against UFC featherweight champion Max Holloway, who faces Dustin Poirier at UFC 236 for the interim lightweight title, while Nurmagomedov sits out the majority of 2019 due to his own suspension.
