Means-Oliveira Rematch Set for Brazil
At UFC 207, welterweights Tim Means and Alex Oliveira were in the midst of an entertaining fight before controversy struck. The bout, which ended in a no-contest, will be run back: the two will fight again at UFC Fight Night 106 on March 11 in Fortaleza, Brazil.
The news was first reported by Brazilian outlet Combate.
In their first fight in December, the referee stepped in when Means hit Oliveira with multiple knees that were deemed illegal due to Oliveria being grounded.
Though there was some confusion over whether Means’ strikes were illegal, in part because of the commentary team being unclear on the issue, Oliveira was a grounded opponent both with the old rules set and the new one that was implemented in January.
Means and Oliveira were both on two-fight winning streaks prior to their fight, which was deemed a No Contest.
UFC Fight Night 106 is headlined by a middleweight fight between Vitor Belfort and Kelvin Gastelum.
