Michael Chandler Declines Rafael dos Anjos’ Bout Proposal

Michael Chandler has turned down Rafael dos Anjos’ proposal to fight him and RDA is not happy about it.

Dos Anjos was scheduled to fight Islam Makhachev on November 14. Makhachev ended up pulling out of the bout due to an infection. With no clear replacement opponent in sight, dos Anjos called out former Bellator Lightweight Champion Chandler.

Chandler responded to fight fans on Instagram who asked him what his answer was to dos Anjos’ challenge.

“I was sleeping…now I’m addressing: we have other plans.”

Taking to his Twitter account, dos Anjos responded by criticizing Chandler for his answer.

“If you don’t take a fight because you don’t have enough time to drop weight I get it but don’t tell me you have other plans. I became the champion of the BIGGEST organization fighting everyone they put in front of me. Shame on you.”

As of now, dos Anjos remains without an opponent for this Saturday’s card. Whether or not dos Anjos also gets pulled from the card remains to be seen. The former UFC Lightweight Champion hasn’t competed since January 25. He dropped a unanimous decision to Michael Chiesa. He hasn’t emerged victorious since May 18, 2019.

Chandler has yet to step inside the Octagon. He was put on standby for the UFC 254 main event in case Khabib Nurmagomedov or Justin Gaethje couldn’t make it to fight night. Both men did, so Chandler wasn’t needed for the card.
