Michael Chandler vs. Dan Hooker Set For UFC 257

Michael Chandler has his first UFC bout set.

Stuff.co.nz initially reported that Chandler vs. Hooker is a go for UFC 257 on January 23. That report has now been confirmed by ESPN’s Brett Okamoto. Okamoto noted that some minor details need to be hammered out.

“Official. Hooker vs. Chandler is on for UFC 257 in Fight Island. A few last-minute logistical hurdles needed to be cleared, but it’s now all set. 20 days away. Who you got?”

Chandler had been a mainstay under the Bellator banner. He became a three-time Bellator Lightweight Champion. After testing free agency, Chandler put pen to paper with the UFC.

Initially, the hope was to book Chandler for the UFC 254 card. The promotion ultimately decided to just use Chandler as a backup plan in case the main event between Khabib Nurmagomedov and Justin Gaethje fell through.

Hooker was last seen in action back in June 2020. He took on Dustin Poirier in a Fight of the Year candidate. Hooker ended up falling short via unanimous decision.

In Chandler’s last outing, he shared the Bellator cage against former UFC Lightweight Champion Benson Henderson in a rematch. Chandler scored the first-round knockout victory over Henderson in what may have been the final Bellator bout of his career.
