Michael Chandler Wants Nate Diaz For UFC 306 Fight

Michael Chandler wants Nate Diaz for a fight at The Sphere on September 14 at UFC 306.

Chandler is still waiting for his next fight after Conor McGregor withdrew from their UFC 303 clash with a toe injury. The Irishman has said he will be back by September, leaving the possibility of a date at The Sphere. However, Dana White has stated he does not expect McGregor to fight in 2024. That leaves Chandler with a choice to make.

He can continue to wait for McGregor, which extends his inactivity from the 2022 loss to Dustin Poirier at UFC 281. Chandler has been offered a title fight with UFC Lightweight Champion Islam Makhachev. That will offer him a smaller payday than McGregor. But a win over Islam makes any McGregor fight much bigger as a title is on the line. Chael Sonnen has encouraged Chandler to take that fight.

“If Michael Chandler is offered Islam Makhachev, there is a message being delivered to him, that he has got to be able to hear. The words, ‘We cannot get you Conor McGregor. We are not going to get you Conor McGregor. Don’t make that mistake. You’ve got to get the matches you can get when you can get them. You’ve got to win the matches you can win when you can win them. You’ve got to sign the matches you can sign when you can sign them. In front of everything else, get the fight and get it into the ring,” Sonnen said
