Michael Conlan Wins Over Miguel Marriaga In Belfast

Michael Conlan earned a victory over Colombian Miguel Marriaga at the SSE Arena in Belfast.

This was the Irish Olympic medalist’s first time back since last march, where he scored a final round KO to Leigh Wood in their WBA featherweight title fight.

Conlon impressed in this fight, taking a unanimous points decision over Marriaga, with two judges scoring it 99-88 and the third 99-89.

Marriaga struggling to land hits with any real consistency throughout the fight, while Conlan was in full control.

Conlan sent Marriaga to the canvas with a glancing blow during the seventh round, although the Colombian claims it was a slip. A powerful right-hook to the body forced him to the ground again in the eight, although he was able to recover.

Conlan took some hard blows from Marriaga in the final, but he was able to recover and see the fight out to take the decision. Marriaga’s professional record is now 17-1.
