Michael Page Gunning For Rematch With Douglas Lima
Michael Page is still in search of a rematch with Douglas Lima.
Back on May 11, 2019, Page shared the cage with Lima in a Bellator Welterweight World Grand Prix Semi-Final bout. “Venom” was knocked out in the second round. Page has won three straight bouts since his lone career loss, with all three of those victories being knockouts.
Lima ended up winning the Bellator Welterweight World Grand Prix, capturing the 170-pound gold in the process. He’ll be facing Gegard Mousasi for the vacant middleweight gold at Bellator 250 on October 10.
During a virtual media scrum, Page said that no matter which division Lima is in, he wants a second crack at him (h/t MMAFighting.com).
“That fight is the fight that I want. I’m more interested in that fight than anything else. If Lima was to decide to stay at middleweight, then I’m going to meet him at middleweight. If he wants to move to light heavy, heavyweight, then I’ll meet him there. Either way, I want that fight.”
Page went on to say that his eagerness to fight Lima again doesn’t just boil down to the fact that he lost their first encounter.
“It’s significant, but not just because I lost the fight. If it was a close back and forth, or I got completely dominated, I probably wouldn’t be that eager to get back. What is more frustrating is because I felt like I was in control of that fight. I felt like I almost gave that fight to him being overeager, a bit too overconfident in a small moment, and forgetting at that level, those small mistakes are devastating.”
As mentioned, Page’s loss to Lima is the lone defeat of his pro MMA career. He’s hoping to keep racking up as many wins as he needs to get the second encounter with Lima.
