Michael Page Thinks Douglas Lima Is Avoiding Him

Michael Page is getting the sense that Douglas Lima doesn’t want to fight him a second time.

Back on May 11, 2019, Page and Lima fought in a Bellator Welterweight World Grand Prix bout. Lima knocked out Page in the second round to advance. It was the first loss in “Venom’s” pro MMA career.

Lima went on to win the tournament as well as the Bellator Welterweight Title. Page is riding a four-fight winning streak. While “MVP” is looking to get a rematch with Lima for the 170-pound gold, Lima hasn’t been impressed with Page’s level of competition.

Speaking to reporters following his Bellator 248 win over Ross Houston, Page expressed his belief that Lima is worried about a rematch (h/t BJPenn.com).

“It does feel like more and more, every fight that I have now, he is more and more trying to undermine what I’m doing. And I think it’s simply because he and I both know how close that fight was, sorry, how much success that I was getting in that fight up until that point. He even admitted it afterward how fast I was, that he’d never come up against anybody with that kind of speed. He said all these amazing things and had a lot to say about me as an athlete directly after the fight.

“And now that I want to get back in I think he doesn’t want that, you know? I think he’s almost as worried about what could happen the second time around which is why near enough every fight I hear something that suggests he doesn’t want to make this fight happen again. Which for me, means I live in his head.”

Lima is scheduled to share the cage with Gegard Mousasi on October 29. The bout will be contested for the vacant Bellator Middleweight Championship.
