Miesha Tate Already Eyeing Rematch With Amanda Nunes Ahead Of UFC Comeback

Miesha Tate has a rematch with Amanda Nunes on her mind.

Tate is a former UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion. She captured the gold back in March 2016, stunning Holly Holm via fifth-round submission. Tate lost the title in July of that year to Nunes. “The Lioness” has remained the champion at 135 pounds ever since.

With Tate revealing her UFC return, she is already showing interest in a showdown with Nunes. “Cupcake” took to SiriusXM to express confidence in her ability to get revenge on Nunes (h/t MMAJunkie.com).

“That’s what’s so exciting to me is I get to get in there and mix it up with Marion and she’s the one that I had to keep those goals on, but I can tell you for the next two years, that’s my plan to be heavily involved in the sport. Obviously, I want to become a champion again, and I think Amanda (Nunes) is just a phenomenal fighter. She’s the best. She’s the greatest of all time. But I really believe that finally, hopefully when that moment comes, which I know it will, I know if I put my nose to the grindstone – and that’s just to say if my girl Julianna (Pena) doesn’t get it done first.”

Tate is scheduled to go one-on-one with Marion Reneau on July 17. While the fight will be Tate’s comeback, it’ll be Reneau’s final pro MMA bout. Tate’s teammate and friend Julianna Pena is gunning for a title shot against Nunes at the moment.

Nunes last competed back in March. She defeated Megan Anderson to successfully defend her other title, the UFC Women’s Featherweight Championship.
