Miesha Tate To Make Flyweight Debut Against Lauren Murphy
Miesha Tate is returning to the octagon in a new weight class.
The former bantamweight champion will be dropping down to 125 pounds and will take on Lauren Murphy on May 14 at a UFC event, multiple sources confirmed to MMA Fighting. No contracts have been signed yet.
Tate hinted at the change several weeks after her unanimous decision loss to Ketlen Vieira in November. She previously retired from retirement in 2021 and knocked out Marion Reneau in a five-round main event.
Murphy will take on the UFC star with a 5-1 record in her last six fights under her belt. Her only loss comes from reigning flyweight champion Valentina Shevchenko.
Murphy previously fought at 145 and 135 pounds before dropping to flyweight for season 26 of The Ultimate Fighter in 2017.
No other fights have been linked to this May card.
