Mighty Mouse Handed Indefinite Suspension For Knee

Following the loss of his UFC flyweight title at UFC 227, Demetrious Johnson received a seven day medical suspension by the California State Athletic Commission, now will be suspended indefinitely.

While speaking with MMA Junkie’s Steven Marrocco, CSAC executive director Andy Foster has suspended Johnson due to reports of a serious knee injury. Foster said that Johnson would need to be cleared by a doctor to compete again.

After a historic title-reign, which would feature eleven successful titles, Johnson lost the title in a close split decision loss to Henry Cejudo, and may have suffered a “high grade” LCL tear. The tear is not serious enough to need surgery, and should be able to be rehabbed within six weeks.

“Typically (a) Grade 3 (tear), you need surgery,” Johnson said. “Grade 2 is six weeks off and rehab. It’s feeling like a Grade 2 because I’ve had a tear in my left LCL before.”
