Mikaela Mayer, Alycia Baumgardner Given Green Signal For Fight

Mikaela Mayer (17-0, 5 KOs) and Alycia Baumgardner (12-1, 7 KOs) have recently traded social media haymakers.

It is likely that the two pound-for-pound talents will give the timeline for their super fight, which will establish the queen of the 130-pound division.

According to Top Rank, the fight will take place either in later summer or early fall. The date, venue and ticket information of the Mayer-Baumgardner title unification showdown will be announced in the coming weeks.

“The biggest quality of Mikaela [Mayer] is her ambition. She doesn’t just believe that she can, she expects to win. She always wants to be the center of attention, whereas Alycia [Baumgardner] is a big champion too. This will be one of the most anticipated events in boxing history,” Bob Arum, Top Rank chairman, stated.

Mayer has represented the United States in the 2016 Rio Olympics.

In October 2020, she became the WBO world champion with a straightforward win over Ewa Brodnicka.

In November last year, the Los Angeles native unified the WBO and IBF titles after one of her greatest matches against Maiva Hamadouche. The unanimous decision after the ten rounds also resulted in Mayer winning the Ring Magazine belt.

On the other hand, Baumgardner recently secured her first title defense with a win over former unified world champion Edith Soledad Matthysse.
