Mike Coppinger Confirms Fury Vs. Usyk’s Two-Way Rematch Clause, What Does It Mean For Joshua?
Mike Coppinger has confirmed that Tyson Fury’s bout with Oleksandr Usyk includes a two-way-rematch clause.
The two heavyweights agreed to an undisputed fight, pending an official fight date, which will allow boxing fans to see an undisputed heavyweight champion since 1999 when Lennox Lewis beat Evander Holyfield. The news over the rematch clause came after the initial talks for a Wembley fight in April failed after the rematch terms could not be agreed. Fury’s refusal to accept a 70-30 split for the winner meant that both fighters parted ways with the negotiations.
‼️ The IBF have now sent a letter to both Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk's camps confirming that the winner of their undisputed heavyweight world title fight will be ordered to defend vs IBF mandatory challenger Filip Hrgovic next, no exceptions allowed. If Fury and Usyk rematch…

“The IBF sent a letter to involved parties last week that stipulated the winner of Fury-Usyk must make a mandatory defense with no intervening bouts, and that the organization will not grant exceptions. That means if an immediate rematch takes place, the IBF title won’t be on the line. In that instance, Croatia’s Filip Hrgovic will fight the next available contender for the vacant IBF title,” Coppinger said
As we reported previously, the news over the rematch clause had been suggested by Eddie Hearn after the promoter confirmed ‘speculation’ that this may be the case. Although the rematch clause does exist, it has been complicated by the IBF’s ruling. The organization has confirmed that the winner of the fight must face the IBF mandatory Filip Hrgovic. The failure to do so, even with a rematch in place, would result in the Croatian fighting for the vacant belt against the next-highest-ranked fighter, Anthony Joshua.
The news will also give Joshua the chance to potentially become a three-time world champion. A fight with Hrgovic would be easy to make since both fighters are with Matchoom Boxing. And after having not been in the biggest fights since the loss to Usyk, Joshua could have another crack at the title.

The IBF make me sick. A disgraceful organisation. When AJ had a fight with Ruiz (which was a voluntary) they let him have a rematch. When AJ had a mandatory with Usyk which shouldn’t even have a rematch, they let him wait 1 year for a rematch.
But when Fury has a unification for…

Hrgovic’s mandatory shot is way overdue though.

Boxing is just a mess
I absolutely love the sport but to have multiple belts at each level is an absolute joke
