Mike Tyson Explains Problems Tyson Fury Can Give Anthony Joshua
Mike Tyson believes Anthony Joshua could run into some issues if he fights Tyson Fury.
Joshua and Fury have agreed in principle to two fights. There is business to take care of first. Joshua will defend his WBA (Super), IBF, WBO, and IBO Heavyweight Titles against Kubrat Pulev on December 12. Fury plans to make his return in early 2021 against an opponent to be named.
During a chat with Matchroom Boxing’s Eddie Hearn on the No Passion No Point podcast, Tyson discussed how things can go south for Joshua against Fury (h/t talkSPORT.com).
“Joshua’s a masterful puncher, but you can see his punches coming. He telegraphs his punches and that’s just a recipe for disaster if you’re fighting Tyson Fury. Telegraphing your punches for a guy who’s 6ft 7ins? Come on.”
“Tyson Fury is the fans’ fighter. The fans are in love with him, he has the momentum now. In England, Anthony Joshua, he’s a big thing. But Tyson Fury, he’s got the people now. That’s the truth, he’s got the people now, he’s got the masses. They’re following him like he’s the messiah.”
Joshua has only suffered one defeat in his pro boxing career. He was stopped by Andy Ruiz back in June 2019. Joshua avenged that loss in a rematch against Ruiz, earning a unanimous decision win in the rematch.
As for Fury, he has gone unbeaten in his boxing career. “The Gypsy King” has a record of 30-0-1 with 21 knockouts along the way. Time will tell if Tyson’s words hold true if Joshua and Fury eventually trade leather.
