Mike Tyson: I Don’t Think Jermall Charlo Is Strong Enough To Defeat Canelo

Boxing legend Mike Tyson isn’t convinced that Jermall Charlo has what it takes to dethrone Canelo Alvarez.

Canelo is the WBA (Super), WBC, and The Ring Super-Middleweight Champion. Charlo holds the WBC Middleweight Title. Fight fans have been clamoring for the two fighters to collide and Charlo has insisted that he never turned down an offer to fight Canelo despite claims from Oscar De La Hoya.

During a live stream interview, Tyson said he feels Canelo would be too much for Charlo but he still wants to see the fight (h/t Bad Left Hook).

“Yeah. I think he stands out alone. You know, he learned so much from that Floyd Mayweather fight. He’s gonna wind up retiring undefeated. I’d like to see him fight that Charlo guy — that’s gonna be a good fight. I don’t think that guy’s strong enough but I think that guy, he’s not afraid. I think he’s smart and he’ll put up a good fight ‘til whatever happens, happens.

“That’s gonna be an interesting fight, but it’s gonna be a knockout. Ain’t going the distance.”

Canelo is scheduled to take on WBO Super-Middleweight Champion Billy Joe Saunders. The bout is scheduled to take place on May 8. It’ll be held inside AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

As for Charlo, he hasn’t competed since September 2020. He successfully defended the WBC Middleweight Title via unanimous decision against Sergiy Derevyanchenko. This was Charlo’s fourth successful title defense. His next fight has not been determined but we’ll update you once that information is available.
