Mike Tyson Knocks Out Bruce Seldon Seconds Into Round 1 – September 7, 1996 (This Day In Boxing History)

Moments into the WBA heavyweight title fight, Mike Tyson snatched the belt from Bruce Seldon.

Tyson (50-6, 44 KOs) stalked Seldon (40-8, 36 KOs) around the ring before dropping him with a right hand and left hook in Round 1. Seldon got up, but was wobbly, forcing the referee to call off the fight at the 1:49 mark.

Tyson is another legendary heavyweight boxer whose name has transcended the sport.

Before appearing in movies and hosting his own podcast, Tyson held the record as the youngest boxer to win the WBC, WBA and IBF heavyweight titles at just 20 years old.

He also won his first 19 professional matches, 12 of them didn’t even make it to the second round.
