Mike Tyson Praises Ngannou’s Performance Against Fury

Mike Tyson has looked back on Francis Ngannou’s performance against Tyson Fury with pride.

Ngannou was making his boxing debut in a fight where he was expected to be blown away. But in order to give himself the best chance of winning, the former UFC heavyweight champion enlisted the help of Mike Tyson. The latter is a former undisputed heavyweight champion, having beaten Tony Tucker to get the title. The collaboration paid off, as Ngannou had huge success in the fight. A left hook cut Fury above the eye in round two, and it was the same shot that sent the Gypsy King to the canvas in the third round. Despite coming up short on the scorecards, as Fury won via a split decision, Tyson had nothing but praise for his fighter’s performance.

“I’m proud of Francis Ngannou because he listened to everything I said, and I was telling everybody about the great left hook that he landed on his sparring partner and actually broke his leg and I knew if he landed that left hook on anybody they were gone and I was right. The champ went down. I’m happy. I’m very grateful to be involved with his glory, his victory. I’m sure we’ll see a lot more of Mr. Francis,” Tyson

And the performance has earned Ngannou potential huge fights later down the line. Anthony Joshua, Deontay Wilder and a Fury rematch have all been mentioned as fights moving forward. Although Ngannou is expected to make his PFL debut in 2024, the fighter’s current deal allowed him to box, with the possibility of doing it once more. So, moving forward, Ngannou has plenty of options.
