Mikey Garcia Agrees To Sandor Martin Bout For October 16
Mikey Garcia, 33, has reportedly agreed to box Sandor Martin on October 16 at a catchweight of 145 pounds. A venue hasn’t been confirmed yet, but Texas is likely to host the super fight.
The four-division champ’s agreement means that the bout will replace the Juan Francisco Estrada-Roman Gonzalez fight. Gonzalez was forced to withdraw after he tested positive for Covid-19.
Their showdown is likely to take place in November. Estrada got away with the win in their March match. The win was marred with controversy though. Both boxers combined for 2,529 punches, a CompuBox record at 115 pounds.
As for Garcia, he seems to be ecstatic to put on a pair of gloves after a long time.
He was last seen in action in a decision win over Jessie Vargas at welterweight. He was then expected to take on former champion Regis Prograis, but DAZN turned it down after the bout was reportedly too costly for the company.
The October fight will mark Martin’s U.S. debut.
The 28-year-old hasn’t taken on several big names in his brief career yet. His only notable fight came up against Anthony Yigit where he dropped a decision to the former title challenger.
They’re still likely to fight next year.
