Mikey Garcia’s Dad Wants Him Against Pacquiao
Following his son’s win over Robert Easter Jr, Eduardo Garcia is hoping his son avoids a fight against Errol Spence Jr, and focuses on a showdown with Manny Pacquiao.
Mikey Garcia, who would the unify the WBC and IBF lightweight titles against Easter at Staples Center on Saturday, has been actively campaigning for a fight against Spence, who holds the IBF welterweight championship.
“Whatever we say is not gonna change Mikey’s mind, [his] idea of fighting Errol Spence,” Robert Garcia said in the post-fight press conference on Saturday.
“So we’re gonna go for it. You know, we’ve talked to my dad and my dad tells me earlier today, after the fight, in the locker room, he says, ‘Contact Manny Pacquiao.’ My dad would rather go after Manny Pacquiao. He’s the WBA champion, but that just doesn’t interest Mikey. I think we’re gonna go straight into Errol Spence.”
The undefeated Garcia claimed after his win over Easter, that he’d be ready to face Spence by November or December.
