Miller Claims Ball Is In Joshua’s “Court”
Anthony Joshua’s short list seems to be down to two names, and the most unlikely option claims it is all up to the unified world heavyweight champion.
Joshua has a scheduled return on April 13th at Wembley Stadium. which seems all but set for Dillian Whyte to be the b-side for, but ever since Joshua witnessed Canelo’s beating of Rocky Fielding back in December, he’s been eyeing a fight at Madison Square Garden.
With the Garden a real possibility for a May or June fight, Jarrell Miller has become the second option for Joshua and his promoter Eddie Hearn.
Miller’s promoter Dmitry Salita partners with Hearn in promoting the Brooklyn born heavyweight contender, and feels a fight is possible.
“Jarrell is the best American heavyweight, and has always expressed his interest to fight Joshua, so the ball is in his court,” Salita told Sky Sports.
“This is one of the biggest possible fights in boxing for 2019. If it happens at Madison Square Garden, it would bring back the heavyweight memories of Mike Tyson and Riddick Bowe, the boxing greats from Brooklyn, New York.
“Jarrell grew up in Brooklyn, it would be a huge event in New York. One of the biggest heavyweight fights in Madison Square Garden, literally and figuratively.”
Miller has publicly called out Joshua, going as far as to show up late to a DAZN press junket and confront Joshua and challenging him to a fight. The Brooklyn born boxer also attended Whyte’s stoppage win over Dereck Chisora in December, and Salita feels Miller’s star is on the rise in the United Kingdom.
“I know that Jarrell loves the UK fans and the rich culture of boxing there,” he said.
“There are some great heavyweights, a lot of big fight possibilities across the pond for him.
“He is forming a great relationship with British fans and media. Every time he is there, the relationship gets warmer and stronger, so yes it was a great trip.”
