Miocic-Dos Santos II Rumored for UFC 211

UFC heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic will look to avenge a loss in the second defense of his title, as he is reportedly set to rematch former champion Junior Dos Santos at UFC 211 in Houston, Texas on May 13.

Brazilian media outlet Combate was the first to report that the title fight was in the works.

Miocic and Dos Santos fought in December of 2014, a five-round non-title fight that ended up being one of the most grueling heavyweight fights of all time. Dos Santos won by unanimous decision, but Miocic proved that he was a championship caliber fighter by giving the former champion such a hard-fought battle.

Miocic (16-2) went on to become the heavyweight champion, beating Mark Hunt and Andrei Arlovski to earn the shot at then-champion Fabricio Werdum, who Miocic knocked out in the first round in Brazil. He defended his belt in his hometown of Cleveland, Ohio, knocking out Alistair Overeem in the first round.

Dos Santos (18-4) will look to reclaim the heavyweight title, which he held briefly in 2011. After winning the belt by knocking out Cain Velasquez in 2011, he lost the second and third fights against Velasquez for the title.

Dos Santos suffered a knockout loss to Alistair Overeem in December of 2015, but rebounded last year by dominating Ben Rothwell through five rounds.

He was expected to fight Stefan Struve in February, but Struve was forced out due to injury and the fight was scrapped.

UPDATE: Ariel Helwani of MMAFighting is reporting that Miocic vs. Dos Santos is not yet finalized-
