MMA Judge Thinks Jon Jones Is ‘Too Good’ For Stipe Miocic Fight
After a fantastic title fight between Francis Ngannou and Ciryl Gane, the heavyweight division must move on.
Ngannou will not fight for at least nine more months after suffering a knee injury, which could potentially bring Jon Jones back into the picture, but this time in an interim title fight against Stipe Miocic.
Miocic has defeated many great fighters and has one of the most title defenses in the history of the UFC. MMA judge John McCarthy weighed in on the rumored matchup.
“I think Jon knows it [the title shot] is coming, and he’s just starting to wet the whistle on it and get people’s attention towards it, and that’s okay that’s what he’s supposed to [do]… Jon is too good for Stipe at this time… I love Stipe but Stipe’s getting older and it’s the wrestling of Stipe that usually works for him,” he told firstsportz.
McCarthy believes that Jones is too big for already very aged Miocic. He also mentioned that Miocic used to outwrestle guys, but he can’t do this against Jones.
Ngannou striped Miocic of the heavyweight in a rematch in March of 2021 via KO/TKO, a fight which Ngannou said one of his most difficult challengers.
“He’s not going to be able to threaten it in any fashion with Jon, that’s going to cause a problem and Jon can do it in reverse to him and you know…,” McCarthy added.
Nothing is official yet, but both fighters want their title shot.
