MMA Twitter Reacts To Rory MacDonald’s Retirement

Legendary fighter Rory Macdonald recently announced his retirement after suffering a series of losses in the PFL, and the MMA community had a lot to say about it.

The Canadian fighter had a strong career in both Bellator and UFC promotions before competing in the PFL for a shot at the $1 million welterweight tournament prize. However, in his last PFL outing, “The Red King” got knocked out by Dilano Taylor in the first round at PFL 8. Macdonald announced his retirement shortly after.

After the announcement, many took to Twitter to to share their thoughts on his retirement.

“Rory MacDonald retired from MMA today,” wrote media member Adam Martin. “Canadian icon of the sport who had one of the greatest fights of all time against Robbie Lawler. Wish him all the best. Was a contender in the UFC, a champ in Bellator & finished his career in PFL. Maybe 2nd best Canadian fighter behind GSP.”

“Thank You, Rory MacDonald,” the PFL wrote.

PFL founder Donn Davis also shared his thoughts about legendary fighters’ retirement.
“On behalf of PFL, I want to thank The Red King (@rory_macdonald) for demonstrating during his two seasons with @PFLMMA the positive traits we all aspire to … heart, perseverance, seriousness of purpose, hard work, and class,” he said.

Fellow Canadian MMA veteran and former UFC fighter Patrick Cote also chimed in, saying, “Happy retirement to One of The best fighter ever @rory_macdonald”

Although it is sad to see such a legendary fighter leave the octagon, hopefully he will find success in any of his future endeavors.
