Molly McCann-Taila Santos Reportedly Booked For UFC ‘Fight Island’ Show In July
Two rising stars are looking to make an impact int he UFC’s flyweight division. Jim Edwards is reporting that Molly McCann will face off against Taila Santos on “Fight Island” on July 15. The UFC has yet to confirm the bout.
The surging McCann (10-2) is on a three-fight win streak. “Meatball” Molly fought three times in 2019, beating Priscila Cachoeira, Ariane Lipski, and Diana Belbita, each win via unanimous decision. The last fight was back in October. A former Cage Warriors Flyweight Champion, McCann was supposed to face Ashlee Evans-Smith back in March. Due to the coronavirus, the event in London was postponed.
McCann is ranked 14th in the UFC flyweight standings.
The 26-year-old Santos (15-1) is looking for her first major win in the UFC. Her undefeated streak, dating back to 2013, was ended in her UFC debut in February 2019 against Mara Romero Borella. Santos impressed against Estefani Almeida during Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series.
Not ranked in the UFC yet, Santos was meant to fight Gillian Robertson on June 20 in Saskatoon, Canada. That event was also postponed due to the pandemic.
The location for “Fight Island” is Yas Island in Abu Dhabi. UFC President Dana White recently said the event would come right after UFC 251 on July 11.
