Montano Out Of New Mexico Bout Against Chiasson

It appears that Nicco Montana will have to delay her UFC comeback fight. The former UFC Flyweight Champion had to withdraw from her bout against Macy Chiasson at UFC Rio Rancho this Saturday due to an injury. This is according to a report from MMA Fighting.

Debuting in the UFC in 2017, Montano (4-3) won The Ultimate Fighter 26’s flyweight tournament, becoming the first Women’s Flyweight Champion. She beat Roxanne Modafferi via unanimous decision. Montano was then stripped of the belt when she was unable to defend it after multiple attempts. A serious offense was not making weight for her UFC 228 bout against current champion Valentina Shevchenko.

The UFC moved on from her run, so Montano moved to bantamweight. She made her debut in the division (where she originally started her career) in July, losing to Julianna Pena via unanimous decision.

The injury appears to be a grade 2 MCL sprain in her knee. Chiasson (5-1), who is coming off of a unanimous decision loss to Lina Lansberg back in September, will look to now face Shanna Young (7-2) of Invicta FC fame. The 28-year-old is on a one-fight win streak, recently beating Maiju Suotama at Invicta 38. She is 2-2 in her last four fights.

UFC Rio Rancho takes place inside the Santa Ana Star Center in New Mexico. The main event will be Corey Anderson taking on Jan Blachowicz.
