Moraes-Yan To Start Bantamweight Gauntlet At UFC Kazakhstan
The top contenders in the UFC’s bantamweight division will get their chance to shine on June 13 at UFC Kazakhstan. According to MMAJunkie, Petr Yan and Marlon Moraes will face off in a pivotal battle.
Winner of nine in a row, six with the UFC, Petr Yan (14-1) has been surging up the ranks. Fighting three times in 2019, Yan had impressive performances against John Dodson, Jimmie Rivera and Urijah Faber. He knocked out Faber at UFC 245 in December with a brutal head kick.
Ranked third in the UFC’s bantamweight rankings, Yan made joke about Jose Aldo getting a shot at Bantamweight Champion Henry Cejudo at UFC 250.
“Loser get the title shot @HenryCejudo ??
— Petr “No Mercy” Yan (@PetrYanUFC) March 4, 2020
Aldo lost his bantamweight debut against Moraes at UFC 245, his second loss in a row, but earned a title opportunity following a request by Cejudo.
The win against Aldo put Moraes (23-6-1) back on track. After a four-fight win streak, Moraes lost to Cejudo for the vacant Bantamweight Championship at UFC 238 in June.
This matchup leaves Aljamain Sterling (2) and Corey Sandhagen (4) to potentially face off against one another. Sterling (18-3), has won four straight bouts and is 6-1 in his last seven fights. Sandhagen is on a seven-fight win streak. It is unknown when that matchup, if it were to take place, would happen. If everything can work out, one of the four of these men would be next for a title opportunity.
UFC Fight Night 176 will be takin place inside the Astana Arena.
