Moraga vs. Reis Booked for UFC on Fox 29
Flyweights John Moraga and Wilson Reis are scheduled to face off on the UFC on Fox 29 card on April 14, per MMAFighting.
Both men are former challengers to Demetrious Johnson and the UFC Flyweight Title. Moraga was Johson’s second title defense after becoming the division’s inaugural UFC champion, and the two faced off back in July 2013 in the main event of a UFC on Fox. Johnson won the bout via unanimous decision. Reis got his shot last April, losing via third-round armbar submission, giving Johnson a tie for the then-record for most consecutive UFC title defenses.
Moraga has gone 5-4 since getting submitted by Johnson, and he’ll come into this bout riding a two-fight win streak. Moraga most recently defeated Magomed Bibulatov back in October at UFC 216, earning a Performance of the Night bonus. Between 2015 and 2017, however. Moraga went on a three-fight losing skid, which included defeats at the hands of Joseph Benavidez and Sergio Pettis.
Reis’ situation is the other way around. Reis will come into this bout on a two-fight losing skid. Following the loss to Johnson, Reis was knocked out by Henry Cejudo early in the second round of their UFC 215 bout back in September. Prior to these two losses, Reis was on a three-fight win streak, and he’ll look to this bout against Moraga to get back to winning ways.
UFC on Fox 29 will take place at the Gila River Arena in Glendale, Arizona. The main event is scheduled to be a lightweight showdown between Justin Gaethje and Dustin Poirier, while Carlos Condit and Matt Brown meet in the co-main event.
