Mousasi: Bellator’s September Card Is PPV Worthy

At Tuesday’s announcement for Bellator’s multi-year nine figure deal with DAZN, Bellator President Scott Coker unveiled a loaded card for the company’s return to San Jose on September 29th.

As reported earlier this week, Bellator welterweight champion Rory MacDonald will step up to take on Bellator middleweight champion Gegard Mousasi, as Mousasi attempts his first defense of his title.

MacDonald is excited for the opportunities that lie ahead of him in the Bellator cage.

“Today was a good day, I get to fight for the middleweight championship, I get to fight in the welterweight tournament,” claimed MacDonald. “It’s a total dream come true.”

The man who will stand across from him on Bellator’s return to San Jose, Mousasi is also excited at the prospects of Bellator’s future.

“It’s a big fight… They say its a superfight,”Mousasi told FIGHT SPORTS on Tuesday.

“Bellator is growing, they’ve acquired a lot of big names, big fights are happening all the time now,” claimed the Middleweight champion.

“This Card could easily be a Pay Per View card for the UFC.”

The co-main event for Bellator’s first event on DAZN features Rampage Jackson looking to even his career series with Wanderlei Silva.

Jackson, who got the win in their last fight nearly a decade in the UFC, feels it’ll be a different fight for Silva.

“He probably didn’t think there was a way in hell I could win,” Jackson told FIGHT SPORTS about his third fight with Silva, where he won by first round knockout.

“A lot of times when a fighter fights somebody that beast them twice, they’re already mentally defeated. I’m not that guy, I have a strong mind, I understand how fighting works…. This time he’ll be a bit more weary of my knockout power, and my will to win.”

When it comes to his feelings towards his longtime rival, Jackson said he has respect for Silva, but “inside the cage, there’s no respect.”

Talking with FIGHT SPORTS, Wanderlei Silva expects this one to be the best of their series that spans two decades and now three promotions. “I expect this to be the best fight against each other,  we’re gonna have full power,”

“I think this will be one of the best fights in the history of MMA.”
