Munguia Also Received Canelo Offer For Sept. 14
As potential opponents appear and then disappear for Canelo Alvarez’ September 14th return, WBO super welterweight champion, Jaime Munguia is the latest to receive an offer to fight the middleweight star.
Munguia’s manager, Fernando Beltran, told ESPN that an offer has been made for a fight between the two for Munguia’s debut at middleweight.
“This morning I spoke with Oscar (de la Hoya) and he asked me if there was interest in the fight between Jaime and ‘Canelo’,” Beltrán told ESPN. “I told him that our interest is very high and then he sent me an offer that we are reviewing.
“It would be sensational for Mexico if two of its champions face off and put our boxing on hold,” he continued.
More issues arise with the offer to Munguia, as offers to fight with Jessie Vargas, Patrick Teixeira and Dennis Hogan are also on the table, and Alvarez’ protracted talks with Gennadiy Golovkin and Sergey Kovalev.
While Canelo-GGG III is the fight many want to see, Golovkin refuses to fight in Nevada following a draw and his first pro loss in the first two fights against Alvarez, and Kovalev is near a deal to defend his WBO light heavyweight title later in the summer against Anthony Yarde in his native Russia.
Also reported this week is an offer or negotiations being set to have Alvarez fight WBO middleweight champion Demetrius Andrade, who just came off a win over Maciej Sulecki this past weekend on a DAZN card from Providence, Rhode Island.
