Munguia Defends vs. Inoue on Jan. 26

Jaime Munguia’s next title defense is now official, as he will face Takeshi Inoue on Jan. 26 with the WBO Junior Middleweight Championship on the line in the main event of a card from the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas.

This year proved to be a standout year for Munguia. After back-to-back knockout wins in February and March, Munguia was a name to potentially replace Canelo Alvarez in a May bout with Gennady Golovkin. The Nevada State Athletic Commission, however, rejected the idea.

In turn, however, this allowed Munguia to step in for Liam Smith to challenge Sadam Ali for the WBO Junior Middleweight Title, a bout that saw Munguia drop Ali four times in four rounds to claim the title. Munguia then defeated Smith in July before stopping Brandon Cook in September. Munguia looks to fight four times again in 2019.

This bout will mark the 13-0-1 Inoue’s first fight in the Western hemisphere, let alone the United States. With seven knockouts to his credit, he’s ranked No. 3 by the WBO.
