Jaime Munguia will challenge fellow Mexican Armando Reséndiz for the WBA Super Middleweight World Title on May 2 in the co-main event to the unified cruiserweight title fight between David Benavidez and Gilberto Ramirez.
Reséndiz enters his first title defense. He was elevated from interim to full champion on January 1, 2026, following the retirement of five-division champion Terence Crawford. Reséndiz secured his position by defeating Caleb Plant in a split-decision victory in May 2025.
For Munguia, May 2 represents a chance for redemption. After suffering a shock 6th-round knockout to Bruno Surace in December 2024, Munguia avenged the loss with a win on May 3, 2025. Following the win, Munguia failed a VADA test. While the win was not overturned (ruled a “false positive” by the BBBofC and WBC), Munguia has plenty to prove. Negotiations for this fight only finalized after Jermall Charlo reportedly pulled out.
