Murray’s Trainer: Saunders Shouldn’t Look Past Murray
While most of the boxing world, including Billy Joe Saunders, is talking about Saunders and Gennady Golovkin in a middleweight unification fight, he still has a June 23rd fight set with Martin Murray.
Murray and Saunders were originally set to face off on April 14th, but Saunders would pull out due to a hand injury. Ever since the fight was postponed, Saunders publicly spoke about postponing the fight again and getting Golovkin to come to England for the rescheduled June 23rd date.
Jamie Moore, who is Murray’s trainer, claims Saunders shouldn’t look past his fighter, especially since Murray is desperate.
“I think when you’re in that position where you’ve got the opportunity, you’re still fresh enough and young enough to do it and you’ve got all that experience from those other opportunities, he is a desperate man,” Moore claimed in a new interview.
“By no stretch of the imagination do I think it’s gonna be easy. I think Bill understands that – and I think they’ve taken the fight, for that reason. They are wanting Golovkin, understandably, and I think they think: ‘We can get Martin Murray, he’ll push us hard, he’ll give us a good 12 rounds and that will set us up nicely’ for if they can get the Golovkin fight in September, so it makes sense from their point of view.”
